About Wartar

What is Wartar?

Wartar is a fantasy wargame, which tells the story of the conflict between human tribes and their greatest eternal enemy – other humans. An unstoppable desire for dominance draws the tribes into a whirlpool of wars, but when legions of the undead and beasts enter the lands of the tribes, the battles reach an enormous scale.

But the Dark Empire of Sheol-morg, just like the human tribes, is also internally divided, as no Lord is accustomed to showing humility before another, and wars often break out within the empire.

How the rules work?

Units are arranged in ranks, and you can change their formation. This allows you to decide whether a unit should use a marching formation, which allows it to move more effectively but makes it less effective in combat, or a battle formation, which provides good combat bonuses but makes the unit less mobile.

In Wartar, heroes, similarly to Argatoria, move independently of units and can support them. However, unlike in Argatoria, heroes can also fight independently against other heroes, units, or beasts. The decision of whether a hero should support a unit or not will be one of the most important decisions in the game. Units that are supported gain bonuses, but heroes who are not attached to a unit provide the army with significant tactical bonuses.

What miniatures will be available for the game?

Wartar miniatures are in 28/32mm scale. Unlike Argatoria, where battles can be huge thanks to the 10mm scale miniatures, battles in Wartar are smaller in terms of the total number of miniatures.

An example of a small army that will be included in the Starter Box will contain 3 hero models, two units of 6 miniatures each, and 1 individual model. That makes a total of 16 models.

The army will be expandable with new units or by increasing the size of existing ones, but the overall number of miniatures will generally be around 30–60 models. It is also worth mentioning that most Wartar miniatures are designed as one-piece models that will not require assembly.

What armies will be available in Wartar?

Initially, the Wartar Starter Box will consist of two armies – the Barbarians and the Sheol-morg army. The rules will allow players to choose between 3 different barbarian tribes: the god- and battle-devoted Dirandis, the untamed and savage Vaendral, and the mysterious guardians of the forests, Gaeldor.

Each tribe has its own distinct warpaints and colours, but at the initial stage of the game, the miniatures used by the barbarian tribes will be shared.

The Sheol-morg army will also be divided into three armies, depending on the chosen Lord: the army of the Lord of the Abyss, who commands the fallen humans; the hordes of the undead led by the Lord Necromancer; and the army of beasts led by Lord of Sheol-morg.

All armies will be expandable through additional Wartar sets. These will be available as boxes containing additional models.

When will Wartar be released?

The system is currently in development, with new models being created and the rules undergoing testing. We share all updates on our social media, but the exact release date of the game has not yet been determined. Our goal is to introduce a two-player Starter Box in 2027.
